Your Adoption Journey

If you choose to adopt through Embraced by Grace, Inc., then your adoption process will look like this:

Phone Interview

Through a conversation on the telephone, you will be able to clarify your desires and goals for adoption. This will help you in selecting the right adoption agency. In addition, our staff can get an idea of the type of child you are looking for and how we might better serve you.

Application The next step would be to complete and return an application for adoption. There are minimum requirements for applicants. Before requesting an application, check to make sure that you meet those prerequisites.
Follow-up Interview

Upon receipt and review of your application, our staff will call you to discuss or clarify any questions we may have from your application.

References Called

We will call the references you listed to ask about your character and suitability to adopt.

Board Consideration

Each application goes before our agency’s board of directors for final approval or rejection. Upon the decision, the applicant will be notified of their acceptance or else referred to other agencies that might be more suitable for their particular situation.

Orientation

Our trained staff will meet with each adopting couple to discuss the process, requirements, fees and funding.

Background Checks Adopting couples are required to complete background checks before being allowed to adopt. In addition, both the state and our agency requires that both adopting parents complete training designed to equip them to be effective parents.
Home Study The state-required home study usually involves a multi-visit interview and inspection designed to ensure that your home and family are suitable for bringing a newly adopted child into your home. The home study will examine things like the stability of your marriage, the safety of your home, auto insurance, financial status, medical records, and employment verification among other things.
Matching Mother/Child Through the review of profiles, introductions and interviews, our agency will seek to match adopting families with an expectant mother or foster child.
Placement Upon the signing of the adoption consent, the child may be placed into your home. For an infant, this would be forty-eight hours after delivery or upon discharge from the hospital whichever comes first. All placements require notification be given to the court and must have approval from the judge.
